The National Client Protection Organization, Inc. (NCPO) is foremost an educational resource for the exchange of information among law client protection funds throughout the United States and Canada. NCPO was organized as a not-for-profit membership corporation in May 1998.

Attorney theft is exceedingly rare, but even one dishonest lawyer can cause significant harm to law clients and to the reputation of the Bar. NCPO offers peer support to local funds that provide the means available to reimburse victims in instances of dishonest attorney conduct.

The legal profession is the only profession that financially supports and maintains these programs that allow law client victims to recover funds when trust monies have been misappropriated in the practice of law. NO TAX DOLLARS ARE USED. Law Client Protections Funds are “The Conscience of the Bar,” - good for the public and the profession, serving in the highest tradition of lawyers in both the United States and Canada by addressing ‘debts of honor’ to restore the integrity of the bar and the public’s faith in the legal profession. NCPO is designed to provide meaningful guidance to other professionals serving in client protection with hands-on, practical information to expand and improve the effective protection of the public.

NCPO provides grant support opportunities to individual funds for outreach, education and training; an annual regional workshop for the client protection fund community; a newsletter for NCPO membership as well as peer support on such issues as addressing difficult claims, changes to rules and regulations, restitution and subrogation strategies and use of technology in fund administration.

NCPO also maintains a Speakers’ Bureau assembled from experienced membership available to address state client protection initiatives like Insurance Payee Notification, Overdraft Notification, Random Audit Programs and best practices for Attorney Trust Accounting and Recordkeeping.

NCPO would be delighted to speak before your fund trustees, your bar association, your court, and even your law schools.
